A fight for a Sustainable world : Gunhild Stordalen

Gunhild Anker Stordalen is a physician by profession and her work involves diagnosing medical problems and monitoring a patient’s health until the patient has recovered or the problem or disease is eliminated. Basically, she is supposed to offer non-surgical health care to patients. But that’s not what she is primarily involved in. She can be seen advocating for the environment and it seems like she takes it as her calling. She has founded EAT Foundation; a non-profit organisation dedicated to transforming food-related issues globally. She is also the co-founder of Stordalen Foundation which is related to philanthropic activities mainly, and also GreeNudge, which is created with the vision to create better health and increase the prospect of a sustainable environment. She is a pretty popular public figure and quite involved in environment-related talks. She partakes in public debates and the prime areas of concern according to her are climate change and the health of the general citizenry.

She mentioned in an interview that since an early age she has been involved in environment-related issues as her family conditions allowed her to construct a mentality that opposes war and violence and a materialistic lifestyle. And since her college days, she has been involved in social welfare-related programs and activities. Later on, after her marriage to Petter Stordalen, she co-founded the “Stordalen Foundation” which has the title of her husband’s family. As a co-founder of Stordalen, she embarked on a journey to bring much-needed change such as Zero Emission, Conserving the Rainforest, etc. She is also involved in Animal Welfare related issues and has protested against such companies exploiting animals.

Recently Gunhild Stordalen’s prediction about the Norwegian Liberal Party’s approach related to tightening food and agricultural policy was praised by Alfred Bjorlo, a Norwegian politician. Actually, in a year-old post on Linkedin, Gunhild Stordalen talked about livestock-related issues and their impact on Agriculture and Climate Change. That the level of consumption of livestock is a huge burden on land and it’s already past the sustainable levels. She says “We need to eat less meat in rich countries. Much less!”. It’s not new that she is talking about such things, she has been quite vocal in the past on such issues and her sheer dedication to curb climate-related issues is genuinely appreciable. She is a rare kind of individual as many of us don’t even bother giving a thought about such issues and we neglect these things as if it’s not even real. There are evident facts related to climate change and it’s about time that the people of Norway and even the world should side with Gunhild Stordalen and try to bring a positive change to this world.
