Giving up something precious to pursue a goal: Carlo Ople’s story pursuing his passion

Carlo Ople, a collector, content creator, and founder of Unbox PH, said in an interview with Tatler Asia, “I left a vice presidential position…to do what I love now in the middle of a pandemic.” Ople has worked with large corporations for 16 years, including Friendster, TV5, and PLDT, gaining enough expertise to develop multiple businesses, including Unbox Creator Network, Project 7 to 1, and This is Hype PH, which keeps his passions

“The tech aspect would come in the shape of games when I was young,” he explains. Battle City and Street Fighter are the games he first remembers playing on the computer with his father and older brother.

He also recalled seeing an NBA legend play on television increased his appreciation for footwear. The motivating aspect of my generation, he says, is that we were fortunate enough to see Michael Jordan play in person rather than simply through YouTube clips. “I remember my favorite Jordan, Jordan 5, I couldn’t afford it so my mom bought me one,” he chuckles.

Ople had to put his interests on hold when he began working in the corporate sector, but he reconnected with them when he started his YouTube career the year after.

Regarding the idea behind Unbox Greenhills, he explains in Adobo Magazine, “I wanted to establish a venue for others who feel the same way that I do and offer them the opportunity and the platform to do so at a very affordable price point.” “How much would it cost you per month to have a store, a physical location in the mall, at 15,000, 20,000, 30,000, or 50,000 pesos? So, after giving it some thought, we decided to build cabinets. People may rent the cabinets from us, and we can help with marketing, operations, and sales. Without the same people present, I wouldn’t be able to harness the platform I have developed over the years.

But even after crossing off several items from his want list, the collector still has a few more on his wish list. Even said, the CEO is taking his time with his collection as every other collector should, even though Ople claims he wants a life-size replica of his favourite Dragon Ball Z character, Vegeta.

“Securely gather. Don’t overspend; instead, stick to a budget, he advises. “Interacting and networking with other collectors is the finest part of collecting. Thanks to the folks I’ve met over the years through my many hobbies, I’ve been fortunate to have many business and employment opportunities. So make friends, engage with them, and meet new individuals!”

This has been shown in Ople’s work over the years, especially in his several businesses. I’ve always believed that having a job is not enough to afford the life you want, so I’m a strong supporter of side hustles, says Ople. Since 2010, when I launched my first website, unbox.ph, I have been working on the side.

At first, the founder published his tech-related news items. But as time went on, the business expanded with the addition of Unbox Creator Network, an agency for other digital producers working in tech, fitness, and other fields.

Despite the pandemic, Ople’s optimism permeates the cabinets and boxes as Unbox PH opens its doors. Perhaps it’s only appropriate that he ends each YouTube video with his catchphrase, “peace, God bless, what’s up, boom,” which comprises four short phrases.
