Learn the scuba diving lessons from ‘The Bucket list Family’

The Gee family, just your “average” family working from all around the world as Family Travel Journalists! Their story is nothing less than what they believe in a fairytale. When they decided to sell everything and leave home for a journey around the world together it was not well appreciated by the peers and families. They started an Instagram and a YouTube channel called, The Bucket List Family. In 2009, Garrett and she initially met during service missions to Vladivostok, Russia. They briefly crossed paths in a small flower shop but didn’t start dating until years later while attending the same university in Provo, Utah. Garrett was developing an iPhone app while “studying” on the soccer squad while they were studying advertising. When Garrett sold his iPhone app to Snapchat after they were married, it forced him to make a crucial life decision: “WHAT SHOULD THEY DO NEXT?” Selling everything and starting over was a difficult decision, but they are thankful every day that they dared to be brave enough. They hope to keep up with their small family and the enormous adventure that is still unfolding and are grateful to each of them for being a part of this journey. Here is a previous screenshot of the August 15, 2015, family goals they set.

They were quoted as stating, “We were going to take the customary next step in life and “grow up,” build a house, and settle into careers. But how about not.” We’re not quite ready for it yet. We believe we still have a lot to learn about happiness and living before we can set up our future life and home. In reaction to this, our family came up with a bucket list. We decided as a young family that now was the time to create positive routines and traditions that would help us become better people in the future.”

It’s really mind-boggling to consider their initial state of thinking. They had no idea what this family outing would ultimately turn into. Reading back on these objectives and seeing how well they’ve upheld their morals and labored to improve themselves, little by little each and every day, fills them with pride. We have found a location to call home after traveling together to 65 different countries for 3 years while living full-time on the road. In Hawaii, we renovated a tiny cottage by the water. It’s a unique location where our family can carry on exploring, stay healthy, and age together. This in no way implies that we will cease traveling, but it does give our family a foundation from which we can engage in local life, spend more time with close friends, and participate regularly in activities like soccer, gymnastics, surfing, and school.

Check out the section of their scuba diving YouTube video where they talk about teaching children to dive in the deep ocean. Their videos are quite educational.
