\nThe widespread consensus, traced back to a film on YouTube by Michy<\/a>, is that Chinese is not a “cool” language. Younger people also generally perceive that Chinese is a complex language to learn, which is one of the reasons they don’t put in a lot of effort to become fluent in it. She went so far as to say that having a poor command of Chinese is not an issue; instead, the problem is a lack of willingness to study the language.
