The Weeknd<\/a> won the 2021 Juno Awards, which honor the best music of the year by Canadian musicians. This year’s Juno Awards were revealed on June 4 and 6, respectively. Eight performances and six award presentations were held on the Sunday show, but they were both virtual. <\/span>The Weeknd received five awards: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year (After Hours), Single of the Year (“Blinding Lights”), and Songwriter of the Year.<\/strong> The album Beauty Behind the Madness and the song “Can’t Feel My Face”<\/strong> by the pop and R&B superstar won the same five awards five years prior. However, neither participating in the program nor accepting a prize.<\/span>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0Big winners on Sunday’s broadcast included JP Saxe, Justin Bieber, and Shawn Mendes. <\/strong>The Weeknd is the first performer to win twice in the categories of artist, album, single, and composer. The Weeknd is also the first artist of the year to win three times since the award’s inception in 2003. He had already triumphed in 2015 and 2016. <\/span>The Weeknd was infamously left out of the 63rd annual Grammy Awards nominations. At the honours in his home nation, he performed significantly better. Out of the 43 categories that were awarded during the two nights, The Weeknd was this year’s lone multiple Juno winner.<\/span><\/p>\n

His 15 career Juno Awards put him in sixth position among all winners, after Anne Murray (25), Bryan Adams (21), C\u00e9line Dion (20), Orchestre symphonique de Montr\u00e9al (18), and The Tragically Hip.<\/strong> These five victories raise his career total of Juno Awards to 15. (17). <\/strong><\/span>The Weeknd sang a song he had been storing for a bad day on Tuesday (May 11),<\/strong> beaming into the 2021 Brit Awards remotely. The Weeknd sang “Save Your Tears”<\/strong> in a brightly lighted, austere box while thunder and lightning raged above him. He was dressed in a sailor-style raincoat. Another visually spectacular performance came from an album cycle that has a history of producing an embarrassing number of performances at award shows.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also performed some air keyboard playing to go with the gorgeous synth riff in the tune. Michelle Obama<\/strong> gave The Weeknd the prize for Best International Male Artist,<\/strong> much to everyone’s joy. <\/span>High-energy and joyous performances filled the Sunday night Billboard Music Awards telecast, which was watched by a live, disguised audience assembled outside of L.A. Live. However, one in particular had the audience scratching their heads and asking, “How?” <\/strong><\/span>In reality, The Weeknd’s off-site performances over the past year and a half have taken on a spectacle-like quality. For his 2020 MTV VMAs performance,<\/strong> he was on the Edge, the highest sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, and for his 2020 American Music Awards performance, he made his way through a display of fireworks. But given that he played while a fleet of classic cars and semi-trucks were zooming by, his BBMAs performance may have been his riskiest to date.<\/span><\/p>\n
