HAPPY BOHRI NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE ? Moharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. Unlike other celebrations, the New Year eve of Bohris are conducted in a very traditional manner, and the festivities are more confined within the family members and community.☺️ All the family members sit around the thaal (as you can see in the picture) and eat together. On the new Year’s eve, 21 or 52 delicacies are usually served, I have made 21 dishes. Every thaal must have coconut, betel leaves, or paan and supari, as these are considered auspicious. The meal starts with a pinch of salt, as it is believed that salt clears the gut, cleanses the palate, and helps fight several diseases. The meal is started with sweet dishes, and then they proceed to the savories. The savory starters are then followed by the main course that includes dal-chawal-palidu, which is like a national dish for bohri community. Food and eating etiquettes play an important role for Bohris, we believe in eating together or ‘communal dining’ and ‘no food wastage.’ If you are a foodie and like to explore cuisines, then Bohri thali is a must on the list for your next food expedition.?
